Believing In Yourself and Your Food

The prime source of meat for early families was pork. Hogs were turned out on the open rangeland and forests to fatten on grasses, acorns, chestnuts and drink from clear trout filled streams until the late Fall. Smoke houses were full and winters survived by families working together: believing in themselves and their food.

At North Sky farm we are offering you an invitation to join us and to be a part of that tradition - feeling connected in the universe, to your people and to your place.

Grassland Pork FAQS

What does Rotationally Grazed really mean?

We use portable electric fencing and mobile waters to move pigs to fresh grass every few days. They love it and the disturbance and rest of the grassland mimics the ancient Buffalo herds that used to roam here.

What do they eat?

The pigs nibble on a lot of vegetation as part of their rotational grazing (grasses, roots, low hanging tree limbs) and are supplemented with hearty Certified Organic non-GMO Grains that we source from a small family feed mill.

Why does having cool clean water matter?

The deep well that supplies the farm is filtered by hundreds of feet of bed rock and is as cold as a mountain stream. We have farm built automatic waters that help keep the pigs cool and their water crystal clear while out in the pasture.

What is a Heritage breed?

A breed that has been developed over 100’s of years for for taste - not decades for industrial efficiency.

How does the meat come in the box?

Vacuum sealed and frozen. Prepared by third generation Butchers who are the real deal and true artisans of their craft. They are USDA and Animal Welfare Approved. What’s really special is their traditional German sausage making and a super natural nitrate-free curing process.
